1976 Western Samoa One Tala commemorative coin, issued to celebrate both the 200th anniversary of American independence and Samoa's own sovereignty. The reverse side depicts Paul Revere's historic midnight ride on horseback superimposed over an outline map of the United States, framed by the text "1776 • INDEPENDENCE • 1976 • U·S·A" and the country name "WESTERN SAMOA". The obverse side displays the bare head portrait of the Head of State, Malietoa Tanumafili II, facing left, accompanied by the dates "1962" (commemorating Western Samoa's independence from New Zealand) and "1976".
